JIMO-AI Dash!
JIMO-AI Dash! (Japanese: ジモアイダッシュ!) is a song by Aqours, the school-idol club associated with Uranohoshi Girls’ High School in Numazu. It was released on 26 August 2020 through Lantis as the theme song of the group’s fifth-anniversary program, Aqours 5th Anniversary Jimo-Ai! Take Me Higher Project. The recording was issued on Aqours CLUB CD SET 2020 together with an instrumental version.
The lyrics were written by Aki Hata. TAKAROT and Carlos_K. composed the music, while TAKAROT also provided the arrangement. The resulting track combines an electronic dance framework with the coordinated ensemble singing characteristic of Aqours recordings from this period.
Title and thematic structure
The expression “jimo-ai” abbreviates the Japanese term jimoto-ai (地元愛), meaning attachment to one’s home locality. “Dash” introduces a metaphor of rapid collective movement, linking regional identification with the forward motion of the fifth-anniversary project. The title therefore functions as a condensed statement of the song’s two principal subjects: the group’s relationship with Numazu and its continuation beyond the activities commemorated by the anniversary.
The lyrics treat locality as a relationship maintained through repeated participation rather than as a fixed geographical attribute. References to familiar landscapes, shared experiences, and renewed departures connect the song with the depiction of the Suruga Bay region in the broader activities of Aqours. The text does not establish a chronological narrative. Instead, recurring imperatives and first-person plural constructions organize the song around synchronized movement by the performers and their audience.
Composition
JIMO-AI Dash! is structured as a compact dance song in common time. Its arrangement relies on programmed percussion, a regular bass pulse, layered synthesizers, and short transitional effects that divide the verses from the principal refrain. The introduction presents the rhythmic pattern before the full vocal ensemble enters, allowing the chorus to function as the principal point of melodic and textural concentration.
The vocal writing alternates between distributed lines and nine-member responses. Individual phrases provide changes in register and timbre, while the refrain reduces these distinctions through unison and closely layered singing. This arrangement connects the identification of separate club members with the collective identity represented by the name Aqours.
Electronic processing is used as an organizing component rather than as an independent instrumental feature. Filtered transitions mark sectional boundaries, while repeated rhythmic figures maintain continuity between passages with different vocal assignments. The instrumental version included with the original release preserves this complete arrangement without the vocal tracks.
Performers
Second-year members
The second-year vocal parts were performed by Chika Takami, Riko Sakurauchi, and You Watanabe. Their contributions consist of assigned phrases within the verses and participation in the full-ensemble refrains, following the same distributional system used throughout the recording.
First- and third-year members
The first-year parts were performed by Yoshiko Tsushima, Hanamaru Kunikida, and Ruby Kurosawa. The third-year parts were performed by Kanan Matsuura, Dia Kurosawa, and Mari Ohara. These six performers likewise alternate assigned lines with ensemble passages, producing a recording in which school-year groupings remain audible without replacing the nine-member configuration.
Release context
The song formed part of the fifth-anniversary phase of Aqours, which reviewed the group’s activities since its establishment while introducing material intended for subsequent concerts and club programs. Its publication through Aqours CLUB CD SET 2020 placed it within the annual Aqours CLUB membership release rather than within a numbered single.
The release occurred during the disruption of conventional concert activity in 2020. Its initial large-scale performance context consequently included Aqours Online LoveLive! LOST WORLD, held in October of that year as a streamed concert. The choreography translated the repeated “dash” motif into coordinated lateral movement and changes of formation, while the chorus retained a stable ensemble arrangement suited to simultaneous participation by all nine members.
Relation to place
The song belongs to a group of Aqours works that incorporate Numazu and the surrounding Shizuoka Prefecture area into their textual and performance context. In JIMO-AI Dash!, this relationship is expressed through the general concept of local attachment rather than through a catalogue of landmarks. That distinction allowed the fifth-anniversary program to use the song as a thematic identifier while retaining its compatibility with concerts held outside the region.
Its treatment of place also differs from a municipal anthem. The text addresses a mobile audience, and its rhythmic design emphasizes departure, return, and continued association. Local identity is therefore presented as a recurrent social practice connected with the activities of the school-idol club.
