Love Live! discography
The Love Live! discography comprises music released for the multimedia franchise created by Hajime Yatate and Sakurako Kimino. Its principal recordings are attributed to school idol groups associated with successive narrative projects, including μ's, Aqours, the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Liella!, and the Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club. The catalogue also contains recordings by subunits, temporary ensembles, rival groups, and solo performers.
Most releases have been issued by Lantis, which became a label of Bandai Namco Arts and subsequently part of Bandai Namco Music Live. The discography is closely integrated with the franchise's animated television series, theatrical films, concerts, magazines, and video games. Consequently, its organization reflects both conventional recording formats and the narrative divisions of the franchise.
Catalogue structure
The discography is divided into numbered group singles, animation-associated singles, studio albums, compilation albums, solo collections, subunit releases, and character-specific recordings. Numbered singles generally function as independent entries in a group's recording history, whereas animation singles contain opening themes, ending themes, or songs performed within a television episode or film. This distinction concerns release context rather than musical form.
Voting projects conducted through magazines and digital platforms affected the personnel presented as the visual or vocal center of several early singles. The resulting center designation altered line distribution, choreography, and cover artwork without changing the formal membership of the recording group. Later projects retained audience-participation mechanisms while also connecting songs more directly to television narratives and mobile applications.
The catalogue uses character or member identities as its principal performance credits. Lyricists, composers, arrangers, instrumentalists, and production personnel receive separate technical credits. Aki Hata wrote the lyrics for a substantial proportion of the μ's and Aqours catalogues, establishing continuity between the franchise's first two major recording periods. Subsequent projects use a broader group of lyricists while retaining a centralized production system under the Love Live! name.
μ's recording period
The first principal group, μ's, began its discography with the 2010 single “Bokura no Live Kimi to no Life.” The release established the combination of an audio single, animated promotional footage, and printed narrative material that structured the early franchise. “Snow Halation” followed later in 2010 and subsequently reappeared in the second season of Love Live! School Idol Project, connecting the pre-animation discography to the television continuity.
The numbered-single sequence continued through releases such as “Natsuiro Egao de 1,2,Jump!,” “Wonderful Rush,” and “Music S.T.A.R.T!!.” After the television adaptation began in 2013, theme songs and episode performances became a major component of the catalogue. Honoka Kōsaka received central vocal placement in several recordings, while Umi Sonoda and Kotori Minami participated across the group's singles, albums, and animation-associated releases.
μ's also recorded through three subunits. Printemps used a three-member configuration centered on light popular arrangements, while lily white frequently employed stylistic references to earlier Japanese popular music. BiBi used electronic and dance-oriented arrangements. These distinctions concerned production and repertoire; all three units remained subdivisions of μ's.
The group's original principal period concluded with “Moment Ring” in 2016 and the music connected with Love Live! The School Idol Movie. The catalogue subsequently received anniversary compilations and the 2020 single “A Song for You! You? You!!,” which was produced for the franchise's ninth anniversary rather than as a resumption of the earlier numbered sequence.
Aqours recording period
Aqours began its principal discography in 2015 with “Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai?.” The release preceded the 2016 premiere of Love Live! Sunshine!! and retained the earlier combination of recorded music and animated promotional video. Later numbered singles included “Koi ni Naritai Aquarium,” “Happy Party Train,” and “Mitaiken Horizon.”
The Aqours catalogue expanded through two television seasons, the film Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow, and associated games. Chika Takami served as the vocal center of several narrative and promotional recordings, while Kanan Matsuura received the center position for “Happy Party Train.” Dia Kurosawa participated in the main ensemble and in recordings attributed to the subunit AZALEA.
You Watanabe contributed vocals throughout Aqours' singles, albums, animation songs, and concert arrangements. Her recording activity also included membership in CYaRon!, one of the group's three regular subunits. The other subunits were AZALEA and Guilty Kiss, each of which developed a separate sequence of singles and albums while remaining part of the Aqours discography.
Two associated ensembles extended the Sunshine!! catalogue beyond the nine-member group. Saint Snow recorded independently and jointly with Aqours, including the collaborative single “Awaken the Power.” The combined designation Saint Aqours Snow identifies recordings in which both groups perform as a single ensemble rather than a permanent alteration of either group's membership.
The project later produced music for Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror, a fantasy adaptation using counterparts of the Sunshine!! cast. Its opening theme, ending theme, and episode songs form a related branch of the wider Aqours catalogue, although their credits use the identities and setting of the spin-off.
Nijigasaki recordings
The Nijigasaki High School Idol Club entered the discography through the 2018 album “Tokimeki Runners.” Unlike the initial structures of μ's and Aqours, Nijigasaki was organized around individual school idols whose solo recordings constituted the central unit of the project. Group performances remained part of the catalogue, but the first albums allocated a separate solo song to each participating member.
This model was retained in later albums and in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. Ayumu Uehara, Setsuna Yuki, and Kasumi Nakasu each accumulated independent solo repertoires alongside ensemble recordings. The addition of Shioriko Mifune, Mia Taylor, and Lanzhu Zhong expanded the recording membership after the original nine-member configuration had been established.
Nijigasaki's regular subunits are DiverDiva, A・ZU・NA, QU4RTZ, and R3BIRTH. Their releases use combinations of two, three, or four performers rather than a uniform membership count. Music from the television adaptation and the original video-game continuity is catalogued separately because the two settings employ different narrative contexts for overlapping performers.
Liella! and Hasunosora
Liella! made its recording debut with the 2021 single “Hajimari wa Kimi no Sora,” shortly before the broadcast of Love Live! Superstar!!. The group initially recorded with five members. Its discography expanded to nine members during the second television season and to eleven members before the third, making changes in ensemble size a structural feature of its catalogue.
Kanon Shibuya, Keke Tang, and Chisato Arashi participated in the initial five-member recordings. Kinako Sakurakōji and the other second-generation members entered through later singles and television music, while Tomari Onitsuka and Wien Margarete joined during the subsequent expansion. Liella!'s subunit discography is divided among CatChu!, KALEIDOSCORE, and 5yncri5e!.
The Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club began its commercial discography with “Dream Believers” in 2023. Its recordings are integrated with Link! Like! Love Live!, which presents serialized activities in approximately real time. Changes in school year and club membership therefore correspond directly to successive phases of the released catalogue.
Hasunosora music is principally organized around the subunits Cerise Bouquet, DOLLCHESTRA, and Mira-Cra Park!. Group recordings connect these parallel subunit catalogues, while graduation and admission events alter the personnel credited in later releases.
Albums, compilations, and live documentation
Studio albums in the Love Live! discography usually combine previously issued songs with material prepared for a particular project phase. Nijigasaki's early albums differ from this pattern because they functioned as the primary vehicle for introducing solo repertoires. Subunit albums similarly consolidate recordings that had previously appeared on singles while adding new compositions.
Compilation albums preserve music associated with completed animation seasons, films, and anniversary periods. Solo collections redistribute group songs by presenting member-specific vocal versions, thereby documenting individual parts that were combined in the original ensemble mixes. Soundtrack albums contain background scores in addition to vocal music and are consequently classified apart from character-song compilations.
Concert videos and live albums document staged performance rather than constituting the principal studio discography. Their arrangements sometimes differ from the original recordings through revised introductions, altered instrumental passages, or redistribution of vocal lines. These releases nevertheless retain the song titles and compositional credits of the corresponding studio works.
